The Stretch Cover story began while waiting outside a hospital entrance on Cape Cod Massachusetts to pick up a friend during a New England rainstorm.  While parked there, an ambulance pulled up and the attendants brought out an elderly woman on a stretcher who ended up getting soaked in the rain.  All we could do was sit and watch as she futilely tried to protect herself from that downpour.  Then she saw us looking and her desire to stay dry transformed into shielding herself from the embarrassment of simultaneously getting soaked and having to be transported to the hospital in the first place.

At the same time, right alongside the ambulance, was a mother with a baby in a carriage.  The baby was covered with a collapsible canopy and not only kept dry but hidden from view.  While looking back and forth from the baby carriage to the stretcher the “aha!” moment became clear.  Why can’t adult patients on a stretcher have the same protection as a baby in a carriage?

We set to work on the design, dozens of protype models were fabricated and tweaked for improvements, and feedback from a wide range of first responders all helped refine the design.  And so, the stretcher cover was born.

Conceived from a simple moment of realization, the stretcher cover isn’t just a product, it’s a symbol of our commitment to empathy, respect and the betterment of patient care.   It is our goal to give transport patients the care, protection and privacy they deserve during their most vulnerable times.
